Angry Birds Birthday Party

Hey, I'm back!! I have several parties to post about, but I'm going to start with the one I did last weekend. My son's 6th birthday party! Why is it that the shot of the party table never looks as impressive as you think it's going to? After all the work that goes into it, it should look pretty spectacular!I'm quite proud of this banner. I think it turned out great! Originally, I was going to try to cut everything out on my Cricut and piece it all together...then I got the brilliant idea to just print them off the computer on cardstock! SOO much easier. I seem to like doing everything the hard way first.Paper Angry Birds! I found them online and thought they were so cute so I had to make them. They didn't really serve much of a purpose...but they still look good, right??Angry Birds cheeseball! This was a last minute decision and I'm so glad it actually turned out!An army of cupcakes.I love love love all these bright colors! That's one of the reasons why I was excited to do this party.Life-size Angry Birds game! Since we had the party at a park I didn't do any other games. The kids didn't mind at all and had a pretty good time with this...until the game slowly morphed into Angry Birds football with the golden egg being the football!I wish I could claim these birds, but I can't. I have a friend who can do just about anything (literally) and she made all these birds for me. They turned out great and now all of them (including the pigs) are residing in my son's bedroom! The little blue one is my favorite!Last but not least, the t-shirts I made for us to wear! The blue one was for the birthday boy, Triple Threat was for my 2 year old, and (surprise!) the red one was for me!

I'll post the links for everything I did this time, too. I had a lot of online help with this party!

And two things I did use but wanted to:

Purr-fect Birthday Party

For my daughter's 2nd birthday party I planned a kitty party. She just loves cats! For food, I got Chex Mix (Meow Mix)......and Swedish fish. I also had just a veggie and fruit platter. I'm just kicking myself because I had such a hard time coming up with good food ideas...until the day before the party! While I was at the store I started thinking of all the things I could have done but didn't have time for anymore. Making individual fruit pizzas with a cat face cookie cutter, creating a cat out of cut up veggies, popcorn ball cat faces! I could have done so much! The first thing we did when the kids arrived was make collars out of Fruit Loops. The "kitties" had to put a name tag on their collar and decide what they wanted their cat name to be. After we made those, I gathered the kids in a circle and we took turns practicing our meowing. I asked them all what a happy, sad, mad, tired cat would sound like and they had to meow the way a cat would if it were feeling those emotions. After all that meowing I figured our kitties throats would be sore and they might need a drink! We played Thirsty Cat and had a race to see who could drink all the water out of their bowl the fastest! Then we played Yarn Toss! We sat in a circle again and passed around a ball of yarn while some music was playing. Whoever was holding the yarn when the music stopped won a prize! These were our prizes! I used a stiff felt to make them so I think they were a little more difficult to make than if I had just used a regular felt but I think they kept their shape much better. Here's the template that I found. I have to say, the yarn game didn't work that well with younger kids. They had too much fun unravelling the yarn instead of passing it to the next person! After everyone won a prize, I discovered a mouse in the kitchen! Then, we all looked outside and what did we see?? The whole backyard was overrun with mice! Our kitties rallied together to form a mouse hunting party and ran outside. They searched high and low and found every single one!I made the mice with Easter eggs, yarn for the tails, stiff felt for the ears, 7mm googly eyes, and 1/4" black pompoms. I just hot-glued everything on. I think they turned out really cute! After the mouse hunt, we went back inside for cupcakes and presents. I made these fondant cutouts for half of the cupcakes......and just used sprinkles to decorate the other half.I made a mini cake for my daughter with a larger cutout to put on top of it. I'm still learning how to work with my Cricut Cake and fondant. It's a work in progress!I don't think she minded though. She didn't care what it looked like, just what it tasted like!

Fancy Nancy Invitation

About a month and a half ago I helped a friend of mine make an invitation to a Fancy Nancy birthday party for her daughter. I should have asked her to take pictures of everything she did and done another guest post because I heard that it was awesome! She put a clear sticker on the flap to hold it down.
What girl wouldn't want to be queen for a day??

Mario Galaxy 2 Party Hats

Along with the Mario and Luigi hats we already had, I made some more character hats for the kids to dress up in for my son's Super Mario Galaxy 2 party. I cut out all the patterns with my Cricut, traced them onto felt, cut the pieces out, hot-glued them together and then hot-glued them to the hat.I made a mini Princess Peach hat for my 1 year old daughter so she could join in on the fun! When I made the Mario and Luigi hats I actually sewed the white part onto the hat itself. With Wario and Waluigi I just glued it on and it was just fine.I had to be a little creative with some of the hats. This one is for Diddy Kong. He has stars on his shirt so I just put those on the hat instead.DaisyDry BonesKing Boo - This is one of my favorites for some reason!ToadRosalina! I totally had to make up my own ideas for this. I used a wand (since she has a wand), a "luma", and then I added the light blue tulle to give it a little something extra.
And last, but not least, Bowser! This one is also one of my favorites! The horns are made of two pieces of felt hot-glued together. The flame mohawk is made of flames alternately glued together and then glued to the hat at the bas of the flame. This is the hat my husband wore for the game when all the kids had to defeat Bowser.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Birthday Party

This year for my son's birthday party, I decided on a Super Mario Galaxy 2 theme (that's quite a mouthful!).For table decorations I made some Piranha Plants. They were really simple, just styrofoam balls, paint, green pipe cleaners, green and white foam, and little wooden spools.I also made some coin and brick blocks. Yes, I drew all the lines on the bricks by hand!I made green and red mushroom cupcakes. The white circles are just Wilton's white chocolate melts. Now for the fun stuff! I made hats for all the kids to wear. I was so excited to make these and I think they turned out great (yes, I am patting myself on the back...)!

For the party games, I chose actual names from the levels in the video game and went from there. The first game was Luigi's Purple Coin Chaos! I found dark chocolate Hershey Kisses, bought 100 of them and scattered them all over the room. The kids had to collect all the "coins" that Luigi dropped.Next, Sneaking Down the Creepy Corridor. I taped some Halloween-esqe decorations in the hallway and on the bedroom door that the game was taking place in. When they opened the door they discovered......a room full of Boos! There was a Comet Medal hidden in the room full of "Boos" and the kids had to find it!Then we played Silver Stars Pop-Up. I put together a scavenger hunt to find the five Silver Stars that were hiding around the house. (Side note - I used Sheriff badges that I found at a party store but then found actual little silver stars the next time I went back! Grr!)

The final level was Bowser's Big Lava Power Party! My husband wore the Bowser hat and the kids were supposed to throw water balloon "fireballs" at him until they defeated Bowser. Unfortunately, it rained and we had to move the party inside so we had to improvise with balled up plastic bags. It worked out fine, none of the kids cared as long as they got to throw something at an adult!I made a poster with outlines of everything the kids needed to collect in each level.
Once they defeated Bowser, the kids were awarded the Grand Star for completing all the levels. It was the sweetest reward they could have gotten!
